TL;DR: ExpenseMate is a fully offline app. We collect nothing, store nothing on our servers, and share nothing. Everything you enter stays on your device.
What we collect
Nothing. ExpenseMate does not have servers, and we do not collect, receive, or process any personal data.
What is stored on your device
The following information is stored only on your device in a local SQLite database:
- Expenses (amount, category, merchant, payment method, notes, date)
- Income entries
- Budgets and category-specific limits
- Shopping lists and items
- Recurring expense rules
- Application settings (currency, theme, PIN hash)
- Receipt images you attach to expenses
You control all of this data. Deleting the app removes it entirely.
Permissions and why we ask
- Camera — Used only when you tap "Scan a receipt" or "Attach receipt" to capture a photo. Images are saved to your device's local storage. They are never uploaded.
- Photo library — Used only when you choose to attach an existing photo as a receipt. Images are read from your device only.
- Biometric (Face ID / Fingerprint) — Used only if you enable PIN + biometric unlock. The biometric check is performed by your device's operating system; ExpenseMate never sees or stores your biometric data.
- Notifications — Used only if you enable daily / weekly / budget / bill reminders. Notifications are generated on your device and delivered locally. No push server is involved.
- Vibrate / Boot completed — Used only so scheduled reminders survive a device restart and provide subtle haptic feedback.
Cloud services, analytics, and advertising
ExpenseMate contains:
- No third-party analytics (no Firebase, Google Analytics, Amplitude, etc.)
- No advertising SDKs
- No crash reporting services
- No tracking pixels or identifiers
Because there are no servers, no cloud accounts, and no network calls, there is no user data to collect, sell, or share.
Backup and export
The app provides an optional backup feature that creates a copy of your local SQLite database on your device. You can share that file via your device's standard share sheet (email, cloud drive, AirDrop, etc.) — but only if you explicitly choose to. ExpenseMate never uploads or shares the backup automatically.
Similarly, exports to CSV, Excel, or PDF are generated on-device and saved locally. Sharing them is entirely at your discretion.
Children's privacy
ExpenseMate is intended for users 18 and older and is not directed at children. Because we do not collect any information, we do not knowingly collect data from anyone.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, the "Last updated" date at the top will change. If material changes occur, we will announce them via the app's release notes.
